The National Institute of Bank Management (NIBM) was set-up in 1969 by the Reserve Bank of India in consultation with the Government of India. The institute today has graduated to one of the major centres of advanced learning in the country in the arena of banking and finance. The lush-green campus at Pune, the citadel of learning of the State of Maharashtra, with the state-of-the-art classrooms & teaching facilities, library with more than 60000 books & 385 national and international journals, hostels with modern amenities foster the ideal learning environment. The entire academic resources of the institute are committed to fulfilling the unique mandate to play the role of “think-tank” to the Indian banking system. The institute continues to offer training programmes which are at par, if not better, with the programmes offered by any institutions of advanced learning in India and abroad. In order to usher-in international best practices, the institute is offering programmes in collaboration with the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University, USA , The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), U.K., CME, Group, Chicage and also in association with the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. IMF, in collaboration with AUS-AID and the Reserve Bank of India, has set-up its seventh international centre (IMF-ITP) in NIBM for South Asia and Eastern Africa regions.

The research and consulting support provided by the institute to banks in addressing areas of topical concern has earned adulations from the system. Our journal ‘Prajnan’ provides the much needed platform to the academia to share their research findings with serious audiences; the journal ‘Vinimaya’ is the medium for exchange of ideas for practicing bankers.

The Institute has made a small beginning to nurture and develop a new managerial cadre that can dream, envision and create a new future for banking and finance in our country.

The introduction of the Post Graduate Programme in Banking and Finance (PGPBF) in 2003-04 is undoubtedly a significant step of the Institute to foster new knowledge and creative thinking in banking and finance. Faculty of the institute is dedicated to ensure that the PGPBF students not only possess sound analytical foundation and innovative outlook in banking and finance but also have a strong flair and practical orientation to the nuances of banking and finance. They are the torchbearers of the Institute in its new journey in the field of management education.

Our dedication and commitment to the unique mandate of the institute coupled with our innovative outlook and analytical frame of mind in deciphering the emerging realities engrained in the seeds of change hold the key to NIBM achieving the position of preferred partner of the Indian banking system.
